March 12, 2013 - Moroccan Treat
I didn't make this, so this will be brief. My coworker is from Morocco and so is her husband. Being a foodie and a lover of Moroccan flavours, her and I have have had a number of chats about Moroccan food as I know it versus authentic Moroccan food as she knows it. I like to spend as much time as I can checking out recipes and cooking techniques on the web. Some time ago I stumbled upon a Moroccan recipe for a soft, thin pancake they make called rzizza. It's kind of like a crêpe, but typically used in savoury applications. I mentioned that I was interested in trying it and she told me that her family makes it from scratch at home. Last night they made a meal with rzizza and she saved me some for lunch today at the office. I know, right. How nice is that? It made my day.
I was so touched by the gesture and impressed with the meal that I thought I'd share this. My apologies for the photo, as I had already dove into it before thinking of taking a pic for the blog. The image doesn't do justice to what a very interesting and satisfying lunch this really was.
It was pieces of bone-in chicken (very moist) with onions, lentils and torn pieces of rzizza with garlic, ginger and turmeric. I ate every bite of this. An enormous thank you, merci and shokran to them for letting me try it. It definitely earned a mention on the blog.
Good food is one of the best possible gifts I could receive. Especially when it is homemade. I appreciate this so much. It's not every day that I get an authentic, North African meal. One good thing about this photo is that it shows how tender and moist that chicken was.
Alright everybody, I better go to bed now. See you again soon,
