Claudio Aprile's restaurant, Origin, in downtown Toronto

I had been meaning to go to this place for so long. I'm glad that I finally got around to doing it. We have had perfectly warm and sunny weather this weekend here in Toronto. It is perfect for patio dining and drinking. A friend accompanied me to Origin at their location on King Street just east of Yonge. Origin is owned by MasterChef Canada judge, Claudio Aprile, who you may remember had it out for me during my audition. So I've been meaning to taste the food at his own restaurant to see if I could somehow get a peek into his mind. Claudio is known for his fusion concept dishes. The service, atmosphere and food was all fantastic. We sat on the patio and took in the early evening sun in the heart of downtown with the periodic King streetcar seperating the patio from the Cathedral Church of St James. It was wonderful.

As for the food, we tucked into an item from their mozzarella bar for an appetizer: Bufala mozzarella, confit tomato, basil pesto and preserved lemon crostinis.

A friend ordered, for his entrée, the cornish hen adobo with plantain and mole.

I ordered the Chinois duck in a flour tortilla with cucumber, hoisin, sriracha and sour cream.

We split a dessert at the end: dulce de leche, lemon sponge, raspberries and yogurt.

I can't wait for my next visit. Everything was delicious and inspiring. They also have a special brunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 AM - 3 PM and it looks phenomenal! I am stoked to try that one day.

Check out their web-site for more information. They can be located at 107 King Street East. Their phone number is 416-603-8009. They have a second location in North York, Origin North, located at 2901 Bayview Avenue, Suite 300. Their phone number is 416-479-8833.

If you live in the city or are planning to visit, then this is a great place to eat if you get the chance. Call to make a reservation to ensure that you don't miss out on the experience.
